The Tri-Nation Series, Prague, Czech Republic

Prague was the centre of the European cricketing world during the weekend of 10/11th of July with the national teams from Poland, Slovak and Czech Republics participating in the inaugual "FLICX TRI-NATION SERIES". A competition which involved only players who qualified to play for their respective countries under ICC eligibility rules.

Our result in the opening game against the Slovaks was probably affected by the absence of two of our normally key batsmen - Marcin Pospieszny and Simon Haines - who after spending more than three hours driving around the city trying to find the ground, arrived too late to bat! Their place in the batting squad was taken by two players who do not normally play. Unfortunately, Polonia scored far too slowly and only managed a total of 67 for 8 in the 20 overs. In response the Slovakian team achieved the total in 16 overs.

In the second game of the weekend the Czechs played the Slovakians. This was comfortably won by the Czechs who scored 109 for 3, in reply the Slovaks managed a total of 34 all out.

In our second game, and the third of the tournament, Poland played the Czech team. The Czechs achieving a mammoth score of 142 for 5 in their 20 overs. In reply we only managed to score 61 all out. We still have a lot to learn!

Unfortunately for all players, bad weather on the Sunday stopped any further cricket activity, which meant that the Czech republic team with 2 wins won the first annual tri-nation tournament, with the Slovak Republic second and Poland third.

The cricket tournament was a great chance for three teams from the same part of Europe to play against each other, and we look forward to playing in the same tournament next year - which we plan to win.
